What are rubber buffings?
Rubber buffings are pieces of recycled tire rubber produced during tire processing. Flexirocks supplies two types of underlayment for commercial buyers: sieved 4-12 mesh clean buffings with minimal dust and a playground pellet. Select the type, packaging and binder system based on the project specification and intended application.

Rubber buffings FAQ
What is the difference between 4-12 mesh rubber buffings and playground pellets?
The 4-12 mesh product has long been the industry standard in playground underlayment and is what most installers are most familiar with.
Playground pellets were created much more recently and because of the shortages in the buffings supply market.
They both function the same however installers tend to prefer the buffings due to familiarity.
Are the buffings and pellets made from recycled tires?
Yes. Both products are derived from used tires.
Are rubber buffings or pellets appropriate for playground cushioning?
Absolutely. In fact many playgrounds are certified for fall height hazards using both products. They can be used in the base layer of a properly designed surfacing system. Required thickness and impact performance depend on the complete system and its testing.
